Repurposed Tin Cans

Obviously the best use for emptied cans is a tin can telephone.  Never mind that the DIY telephone carries voices only a few feet, and that you may get several awkward stares when trying to reach friends on your cylindrical phone.

But if you’re not into uncomfortable looks and the potential for tangled yarn, check out these other sweet re-purposed can options.

Hand-holding was awkward, being dropped off at the movie theater for your date – more awkward, but when he made you a mix tape – that was love.  Because I live a soundtracked life (more on that here), and because I am a product of the 80s, every Wednesday I’ll make you a mix tape.  Who says chivalry is dead?  You’re welcome.

Shop It To Me + Anthropologie

Shop It To Me – facilitators of my online shopping habit – whispered a bit of insider information my way, and since I can’t hold water – SITM is now going to carry Anthropologie as a retailer!  Aka, you can now be the first to know when Anthro items in your size go on sale (via e-mail … easy peasy).  Simply add Anthropologie brands to your Shop It To Me profile and voila!

If you aren’t familiar with Shop It To Me, SITM is basically a free online personal shopper that lets you know when your favorite brands go on sale in your size.  To become a member, just pick your fave brands from the 600+ offered (Alexander Wang, DVF, Marc Jacobs, J.Crew…you name it!), select your sizes, and decide how often you’d like to be notified.  From that point on, just sit back and relax – SITM does all of the legwork, checking department stores and boutique sites, and each day they send you personalized sales.  That’s where the addiction part comes in.  You’re welcome!

I just requested to be INVITED to Pinterest and I received an e-mail letting me know that I have been put on the waiting list.  Gasp.  I’m having flashbacks to bad first days in junior high.  Why can’t I sit at the pretty inspiration board lunch table?

You see, I have been living in a dark place (the equivalent of the “girls who read books at the lunch table” lunch table), and I had no idea such a fun website existed.  Pinterest is a virtual pinboard of sorts.  It’s a place to organize all of the things you come across online that you love.  Artists mark photos and pieces they feel inspired by, designers pin pictures of rooms that give them ideas, chefs pin recipes/foodie pictures/etc., bloggers take note of all that they want to gush about, and shoppers make lists and save pennies.  For example, check out what Lovely Indeed’s, Chelsea, has on her Pinterest birthday wish list.

Why Pinterest is a potential addiction:  because it’s not only the perfect way to organize the things you come across on the great wide web, but you can also look for inspiration on others’ boards.  Some of my favorite bloggers are on Pinterest (Oh pleeeease let me sit at the lunch table!)  Basically, Pinterest is a tidy  way to organize your online finds, without having a billion bookmarks in your favorites folder.

I should just title this post:  Lady Gaga is a Marketing Genius.

Apparently, way back when in 2010, Lady Gaga released a limited number of USB drives, titled The Fame USB.  The USB contained The Fame album, live tracks and remixes, rare tracks, video clips, Gaga images, lyrics and more.  The small number of USB’s (allegedly only 100 were released) sold out immediately in Australia, and were not marketed anywhere else.

Swallow sadness.

But seriously – how genius is a musical USB?  CD’s are dying a slow death, just as casette tapes, 8-tracks, and records saw better days.  Short of releasing all music on a pure internet platform, USB’s might be the next best thing.

Gaga, of course, created the most darling Gaga-mini-me wrapping for her USB – all the more reason to hunt desperately online for those listed for re-sale.
