Design With A New Mexico Twist

These images have me positively inspired.  I know I’m always going on about exposed beam and brick and that perfect rustic feel, so why stop now?  Southwestern decor in particular has that perfect earthen-meets-modern vibe, featuring cowhide, kilim, wrought iron, exposed wood and stone, and rich, colorful patterns.  What do you think?

Dip-Dyed Tablecloths

I spotted these super bright tablecloths on The Merriment Blog and I was immediately smitten (and bit by the DIY bug.)  I need more hours in the day, less work piled up, and maybe a calorie-burning brownie.  Asking too much?

And without further ado, a DIY ombre or dip-dyed tablecloth tutorial on Oh Happy Day, by Brittany of The House that Lars Built.

Guest Posting on A Newfound Treasure

Happy Wednesday, all!  Today I’m guest posting over on A Newfound Treasure.

A peak at what I’m lusting after …

I’ve always been a lover of gold.  A few years back when shopping engagement ring styles (he knows better than to surprise me … too much), I only wanted a yellow gold ring.  The jewelers all frowned and gave me a list of reasons why platinum was classic and I’d tire of yellow gold.  I never have, and I never will — I love, love, love my yellow gold setting, thank you very much.

It’s no surprise really that I swoon over yellow gold home accents as well.  There’s something so elegant about a heavy piece of gold armor on a tabletop or a surprising gold and cream chevron print on the wall.  But what I really love about gold home accents, is that because of their already formal “feel”, the mediums have a whole lot more legroom to get funky.  Take the AREAWARE gold piggy bank – it’s a pig, used in every trendy designer, fashion blogger, and magazine editor’s home design – but it’s a pig, people!  What makes this little piggy so special? That perfect gold metallic sheen …

If you haven’t heard of the DANNIJO brand and designing duo (sisters Jodie and Danielle), you’re missing out. In addition to their jaw-dropping baubles, the pair took to design in this photo shoot for the Coveteur a few weeks back, and it’s just plain awesome.

Vintage Maps

I was bit by the travel bug a long time ago, and though we’re on a budget now, it certainly doesn’t stop me from dreaming in air travel, brasseries, foreign languages, the ever-popular tourist traps, rows of quaint shopping streets, and marble-lined museums.

I love the idea of incorporating vintage maps – or any maps, really – into home design, especially because the images remind me of where I’ve been and where I most definitely want to go. Plus, maps are inexpensive, but look luxe on your living room and bedroom walls.

Inspired By Collections of Color

I put together this little inspiration board over on Glitter Weddings, but the images are too pretty not to share here.

I am a color fiend (though you wouldn’t know it from my black/white/gray/sequined wardrobe), and these images have me grinning from ear to ear – all of the colors are bright, but not too bright, and all feel inspired by nature.

Painted branches — added to the DIY list.

Farm Table + Eames Chairs

I first encountered and then babbled about this stunning dining room here (the rainbow of pastels = divine.)  But on second look, I was struck at how perfect those egg-shaped, sleek modern chairs looked set against the heavy farm table.

Which leads me to my current design obsession: the farm table + eames chair pairing.  Request:  a second dining room, stat.

And, believe it or not, some of the sweetest eames chairs are available at Linens ‘n Things; check out the Space Living 1950’s Modern Shell Side Chair + the Space Living 1960’s Mid Century Rocking Chair.  As for the sturdy farm table, I prefer to hunt down my perfect table at flea markets and garage sales, then coat the entire piece in a glossy white or even matte chalkboard black paint (you know, if I had room for all of this design dreaming.)
