Glitter & Pearls

Inpired By Sunset + Donuts

The title of this post summed up = I need a vacation.

Also, in attempting to name this color palette, I was thinking something lovely, like “salmon + blueberry” or “sunset + lavender”, but really, it’s pink + purple.  And I like it.

Those incredible-looking donuts sound just as amazing once you hear what they’re made of — they are actually homemade baked (feeling skinny already) chocolate donuts with blood orange glaze.  Make them.

And the sweet thank you notes – there’s a free download for those.

A Rainbow of Pastels

Aren’t these images just lovely?  The shades of pastel remind me of a tray of jelly beans or box of colored chalk.  Can I rewind and go back to Kindergarten for a little while?

Perhaps it’s because my hometown is so un-preppy (and also so un-wintery), but I’ve always held a fascination for plaids, tweed, snowy branches, rugby, bow-ties, and Ralph Lauren Ads.

So without further ado, a bit of un-Miami winter inspiration.

I Heart Tapestry

Tapestries, typically woven, but also recreated in prints, have a funky hippie vibe and a whole lot of character.  Like most fashion lovers, and daughters of moms who sew (Hi, Mom!), I adore textiles.  The more detail a piece of fabric has, the more I fall.  Most fabrics are printed with intricate patterns but tapestries derived their historical popularity because of the intense workmanship necessary to weave together the images and patterns along a tapestry.  Kings and Queens once sat on thrones surrounded by walls draped in tapestries.  History + Fashion … be still me heart.

Bohemian Beachside Wedding

There is something so unique (with a touch of Mexican flair) about Miki + Russell’s wedding, featured on 100 Layer Cake this past week. With images from Thomas Struth and turn of the century portraiture in hand, the hip couple hoped to create a look that married both the art they love with a bohemian, desert feel (see sunset coral and ocean blue tones + adorable succulent terrariums filled with pinto beans, cement blocks, sacred heart candles and a piñata).

Friday Link Love

Filed under: Accessorize, All In The Details, If The Shoe Fits, Link Love, sweet

I’m sure everyone missed the last two Friday link fests fiercely, but I was on vacation, and full of pie, and therefore did the bare minimum.  Forgive me?

Speaking of pie, my new Maine obsession – raspberry pie.

Is it weird that I want the team at Confetti System to come into my home and decorate every room with fringe, pom poms, and metallic pinatas?  I have an obsession.

Also, is it strange that I am completely terrified of Sam Edelman’s collection of spike-covered-shoes?  I coveted, and then I ran.  Those shoes kicked my butt.  I tried on the Sam Edelman Lorissa pumps and Renzo booties at Bloomingdale’s recently – within seconds of wearing the spiked footwear I was putting holes in my ankles.  Shoes = 1, Lexi = 3 puncture wounds behind.  I am never one to shy away from pain in footwear; beauty is pain.  But 5-inch heels wielding spike bouquets – pass.  I’m afraid, I’m very afraid.

I plan on staying twelve forever.  Some women cut a few years off of their age at each birthday, but not me, I’m sticking with twelve.  Either my wishful thinking will stick or people will think I’m delusional.  At least their first thought won’t be – no way, she’s at least (fill-in-the-blank) … crazy is much better.  Oh right, glitter bracelets.  Fierce.  And age-appropriate.

Did I mention it’s almost my birthday?

Chevron Paper Goods

I have an obsession with chevron prints.  I’m not sure what it is about the zig-zag, but I love it.  In a matter of days, the hubby and I will be the proud renters of a real home with a garage and everything, and I have plans to be a domestic goddess (take-out served on dishes will still float the “goddess” title, right?)

Step one in my attempt to rival Martha Stewart … proper paper goods – note cards, to do list, and gift bags.  The address stamp is next …
