I Made You A Mixtape

{images a la pinterest}

Hand-holding was awkward, being dropped off at the movie theater for your date – more awkward, but when he made you a mix tape – that was love. Because I live a soundtracked life (more on that here), and because I am a product of the 80s, every Wednesday I’ll make you a mix tape. Who says chivalry is dead? You’re welcome.

Earlier this week I turn on the radio (somewhat rare for me now — admitted Pandora addict, right here), and I hear a baby rapper singing “I’m a 90’s baby, clearly.”

90s baby!  Rappers are 90s babies.  Yikes. And that baby rapper?  His name is Diggy Simmons – son of Rev Run.  Woah, when did I get old?

Sooo, in an attempt to make myself hip again – the current rap playlist:

Do It Like You, Diggy Simmons

Make Me Proud, Drake feat. Nicki Minaj

Dance, Big Sean

Drank In My Cup, Kirko Bangz

Lotus Flower Bomb, Wale feat. Miguel

Rack City, Tyga

Another Round, Fat Joe feat. Chris Brown

Pretty Little Heart, Robin Thicke feat. Little Wayne

Pretty in PINK + The Cork Debate

A few years back, MAV (Maria Alexandra Vettese) created a now very well-known and well-styled campaign for Victoria’s Secret PINK, and that campaign and brand re-haul stuck.  MAV now keeps these stunning little vignettes and inspiration boards neatly photographed on her site, so that we all may swoon just a little bit.

In addition to being a magpie to all things pink, I’m in love with the “old-fashioned” inspiration board.  I’m sort of torn about internet inspiration – the internet has sort of swallowed our inspiration up whole and also helped to foster it in a big way.  Though many of us have become Pinterest addicts, there’s something genuine and ever-inspiring about a back-to-basics cork board.

Inquiring minds want to know (me, me, me), are you a child of the future – i.e., online pin boards are your calling, or is the cork and push-pin more your style?

These images have me positively inspired.  I know I’m always going on about exposed beam and brick and that perfect rustic feel, so why stop now?  Southwestern decor in particular has that perfect earthen-meets-modern vibe, featuring cowhide, kilim, wrought iron, exposed wood and stone, and rich, colorful patterns.  What do you think?

The cheetah-clad show-goers in picture one are wearing the Madewell The Prairie Boot + Christian Louboutin sneakers.

In picture two, the stunning women are rocking a Moncler Sweater  and JOSEPH + a Pendleton for Opening Ceremony Cropped Bomber Jacket.

In picture three, the beautiful be-spectacled blonde stands out in a Pendleton The Portland Collection Timberline Jacquard Coat in Tan/Red (that I am IN LOVE WITH.)

That last wool blue + grey cape is the Rag & Bone Leighton Capelet, though sadly it’s completely sold out.  (Similar Rag & Bone Capelet, here.)

Nail Rings – Nail Armour – Battle Talons

I’ve oohed and ahhed before over nail armour (and a DIY crystal version, here) … Today’s nail rings are a little bit terrifying, and a lot a bit fierce.  Would it be fun rocking a gilded pointed finger for a night? Heck, yeah.  But I’m not envisioning a long term future for the glitzy battle talons.

Are you jumping on the gilded fingernail bandwagon, or are these better for show?

My two cents:  I think I would rock these crazy metal pointers (mostly because i think it’d be totally fun to wear!), just not sure how long the phase would last.
