Love this video – I think it has something to do with the black paint and taped fingers.  So beautiful.

Repurposed Tin Cans

Obviously the best use for emptied cans is a tin can telephone.  Never mind that the DIY telephone carries voices only a few feet, and that you may get several awkward stares when trying to reach friends on your cylindrical phone.

But if you’re not into uncomfortable looks and the potential for tangled yarn, check out these other sweet re-purposed can options.

Accessories On The Cheap

Filed under: Accessorize, On a Budget

I have an utter inability to spend money on accessories. My cheapness began some years ago when my mom, sister, and I discovered the Miami Mart. ‘The Mart’ (a fashion mecca in South Florida) used to be an exclusive market attached to a major Miami Airport hotel that sold product exclusively to shop owners. You had to show proof of store ownership and everything … they meant business. And then, like magic, ‘The Mart’ opened it’s doors to the rest of us. And then we couldn’t walk out of The Mart without emptying our wallets.

While The Mart remains close to my heart, I like to diversify … it’s good for the economy. Thus my affinity for stores like Forever 21. Sometimes the clothes from F21 fall apart after three washes, and sometimes the heels rub in all of the wrong places, but the jewelry at Forever 21 is solid (inexpensive) gold.

This is love …

Chevron Paper Goods

I have an obsession with chevron prints.  I’m not sure what it is about the zig-zag, but I love it.  In a matter of days, the hubby and I will be the proud renters of a real home with a garage and everything, and I have plans to be a domestic goddess (take-out served on dishes will still float the “goddess” title, right?)

Step one in my attempt to rival Martha Stewart … proper paper goods – note cards, to do list, and gift bags.  The address stamp is next …

Clothes Hanger Art

In perusing my Pinterest, a daily routine, I have noticed a trend.  I ‘pin’ every image of delicate clothes on hangers.  Apparently, I like clothes hangers.  Am I the only weirdo with this obsession?  You know you like clothes just a little too much, when you would rather have framed pictures of Oscar de la Renta gowns, than a collector’s Monet.

A big goal of mine is to update my hanger stock-pile. I have used plastic hangers since my Freshman year of college and I’m thinking its time for grown-up hangers. If i truly had my druthers (and ample free time), I would bedazzle every single hanger (a la Free People’s past campaign) like a true hanger aficionado.

By the way, Free People has a great tutorial on how to create your own sequin-dipped hangers.

I Made You A Mixtape

Hand-holding was awkward, being dropped off at the movie theater for your date – more awkward, but when he made you a mix tape – that was love. Because I live a soundtracked life (more on that here), and because I am a product of the 80s, every Wednesday I’ll make you a mix tape. Who says chivalry is dead? You’re welcome.
